As gecko enthusiasts, I think itAbsolutely it should be fun, and those who are not making it fun deserve our attention whenever possible. I know our local herp society here in Northern CA at one point tried an active program to work with pet shops to resolve bad situations like improper care and having proper care info available. If you see a local situation hopefully your herp society can help.

As for my method of encouraging the customer to expect and get the proper info from the gecko seller- I have been doing this with people for a long time and folks are often appreciative and at least are better educated the second time around, that is if the pet shop/seller has not frustrated them to the point of no return. This is more successful with folks that call me(greater opportunity to explain things in depth, listen to whole situation) vs. e-mails . Folks that e-mail are often not that internet savvy and don't want to spend dime one on a book. Personally I find this tragic as there are some really great cheap gecko books available that would go a long way towards educating folks.
