Texas Banded geckos (Coleonyx brevis) can be kept in pairs or trios in 12-quart boxes or 5-10 gallon glass aqauria.  The substrate should be fine sand that is lightly misted a few times a week.  I like to use inverted plastic catch basins, with a hole cut in the side, for shelter.  If you are interested in a more natural set-up, cork bark flats or flat rocks can be used for shelter.  For females, a small nestbox with moist vermiculite will suffice for egg deposition.  It is also a good idea to place a small water bowl in the enclosure.  C. brevis do not require high temps, but the enclosure should have an area that will get 84-88 degrees F during the spring and summer, with an ambient temp. that is around 80-82.  It is a good idea to decrease the temp. and photoperiod during the winter months.  They will readily feed on appropriately sized crickets.   I am currently doing some morphological studies on this species, and the research will continue for the next couple of years.   Nathan Hall GECKOS UNLIMITED ----- Original Message ----- From: Ariana Belcanto To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, August 24, 2003 9:18 PM Subject: [gecko]Anyone have experience with Texas Banded Geckos? I originally thought it was a leopard gecko, since it looks just like one (we have had leos in the past) but it seems much smaller than one, and a little darker. Someone ventured that it might be a Texas Banded Gecko, which would make sense since we live in Dallas (although according to what I have seen these geckos live further west and south than that). I haven't been able to find a good care sheet on those, since they aren't usually kept as pets I don't think. I am treating it so far like a leopard (heat lamp, calcium-dusted pinhead crickets) but am concerned that it might have more specific needs, if indeed it is a Texas Banded.
