Thanks for all the compliments! Too bad you missed the presentation, it covered the parasite issue in some detail.
If your Uros are eating, the stools look good and there is no regurgitation, treat the other parasites first and then worry about coccidia. Coccidia is dead common in Uroplatus, cb or wc. It doesn't always mean the animals are sick, but it should not be taken lightly. I don't like to use multiple meds on these guys at once. If you can eliminate the other parasites, the geckos will be less stressed and better able to deal with the coccidia. I haven't run into entamoeba in Uros, definitely keep in contact with your vet on that one. Trichomonas should be treatable.
About half of the imported Uros I've acclimated had coccidia, most survived
and many have reproduced. I've had the best luck using longer treatments
with Albon (12 consecutive days). The 3 days followed by a 3 day rest and then
another 3 days sometimes works. I prefer this method when animals are weak and
at risk for dehydration. If levels of coccidia are low and the geckos are doing well,
some hobbyists don't treat their animals. Frequent cleaning is an absolute must
no matter what you do. See what your vet has to say.
Good luck! Neil
Julie,
I appreciate your words. When I bought the geckos I was so happy I had found them for such a decent price. I had been thinking about buying this species for a few months and I had everything I needed to create the vivarium (minus the live plants) all set aside. I saw them advertised on a local board's classifieds and I jumped at the chance to buy them. If I had known I would have all these parasite problems (including the increased vet costs) to go along I would have waited until the Toronto Expo that just passed to pick something up. Shame on me! But that doesn't mean I'd give up on the poor geckos. They are very beautiful - sick or not! (but not quite as beautiful as the U. ebenaui Neil had at the expo that I can't stop thinking about).

Hi Mike,last
I can empathize with you being in medical h*ll. Been there many times. As long as your guys are eating I would be hopeful. Lets hope the meds don't depress their appetite too much. Hang in there; you are doing a great job!
