I hit up the list a month or so ago about doing the GSoC for 2008. Here is
a link to that thread:

http://archives.seul.org/geda/dev/Feb-2008/msg00037.html

I am still interested in doing the "Project Manager" for the entire gEDA
suite. I didn't see it on the wiki for 2008 GSoC (which I know is still a
work in progress) but when I hit up the list about this idea Peter Clifton
was one of the people that responded to me.

Here is what I want to do. I want to create a "Project Manager" that will
incorporate the entire gEDA suite (or whatever you can get to build on your
platform -- obviously there will have to be a default amount in order to use
it -- the reason I say this is I use Suse 10.3 and gwave is currently not
buildable according to the wiki). This "Project Manager" will be kind of
like an IDE but for our EDA tools. It would be something that would be used
to use any of the programs in the suite, manage projects and the associated
files. Basically it would wrap everything together so you would have a
fully functional one stop GUI. The keybindings and everything else that the
programs use will become "Active" when working on a file that that program
uses so no program will those their identity or functionality. Depending on
how things go, I could also have an option to have multiple panels within
the window so you could be looking at gschem and pcb at the same time as
well as having tabs for the different files that you have up (like when you
open a new broswer window in firefox with Ctrl-t). All these things are
possible and really it comes down to how or what people would want. All
these details can be addressed later when those crossroads come.

I use Visual Studio at work building GUIs on the .NET framework so I have
experience in this area. I have already asked for time off from my job
during spring break (March 31-April 4) so that I can hack up as much of this
as possible in that week. Yes, that is right. While other kids are out at
the beaches I WANT to code up as much of this "Project Manager" as I can in
a week. I will be using PyGTK and since I am new to this framework it might
take some getting used to but I don't think that it will be too bad since I
have been playing around with it for a bit. If anyone has any suggestions
or comments about anything that I have said, I look forward to your inputs
and responses.
