Um, I'm not sure what *exactly* you mean. If you're asking what such a project 
might involve, you need to factor in:

- Developing abstract algorithms to do this
- Gaining familiarity with the PCB code base
- Implementing your algorithms in PCB code
- Providing a user interface both for the Lesstif and GTK HIDs
- Debugging
- Code reviews
- More debugging
- User testing
- Yet more debugging
- Documentation

(And probably at least one from-scratch-rewrite of your code somewhere in 
there).

(And more debugging).
