Geeqie is focused on advanced users. I am not sure if making it default for
new users is a good idea. I agree that the UI is not ideal and many things can 
be improved, but I don't want to reduce the number of features and 
flexibility.

The current UI is inherited from GQview with minimal changes. I want to make 
it more modular, but it probably won't happen soon.

Now it is time to do smaller adjustments - menu entries, preferences, etc.

Large scale changes like changing the three-pane mode to something else have
to wait after 1.0. There is no concrete plan yet.
