A lot of people like to tout democracy for the success of Korea and Taiwan amongst the 4 Asian Tigers. They neglect to mention that all the growth came while these countries were under dictatorship.
And for some reason, they neve ever mention Singapore, by far the most successful Tiger. Yes, Taiwan’s growth was mainly due to the “dictatorship” of KMT. Now that Taiwan has democracy, it is sinking fast, both economically, and morally. Politicians only care about elections, and no tactic is too low, defaming with an army of 1450 (Taiwan’s official wumao) spreading false news, planting phony evidence, lie lie and lie some more, you name it. Voters seem to have lost their ability to reason as a decent human being, and believe in lies depending on the camp. Xi is a good president if you can see China's problems and you have common sense. Xi is awful if you are brainwashed to believe he is and, never bother to read a counter narrative to present a different angle to your prejudice.
