But the most important thing from this whole "brainwave" is that I replied

Lol, well ok but I chose MP3 because of the wide availability of
players. Most of my listeners (probably) use Media Player.

So,

(1) Where can I download an MP3Pro codec for Winamp
(2) Does Media Player support AAC?

Thanks,

Jim

Quick answers for this:
http://www.mp3prozone.com/download_winamp.htm

And yes, Windows Media will play aacPlus with a plugin:
http://www.orban.com/plugin/

Thanks,

If that's the case then broadcast in 128kbps AAC or 320kbps MP3;
definitely not 56kbps of any format.
Make sure to use sources encoded at or above the target bitrate.

I agree, for my listeners on the popup player I use 64k WMA but I would
really like to use 80-96K WMA. If your music is techno or something that
needs high bitrate because of the genre then go 128k AAC. I am lucky that I
play the classics and a little crackle and minor fidelity loss is not a
problem.

Interestingly I have tried WMA, but I find I get constant streaming
problems at SAMs end. I don't know if it matters that I'm streaming from
Canada to a US server. It shouldn't, but this has happened with quite
consistent regularity over an extended period of time.
