It sounds like you got as far as reconfiguring lilo and trying to run "/sbin/lilo", at which point the paths failed. This sort of thing happens when you boot to a RedHat rescue floppy or a Solaris cd. I *think* this is how one gets out of that and manages the paths. Try rescue booting to the cd to get a shell. You'll have to mkdir /mnt/disk (if it lets you, as /mnt should be virtual at this point) and mount /dev/hda(root) /mnt/disk for your root filesystem. Once you have that, mount /dev/hda(boot) /mnt/disk/boot to include your actual /boot partition and MBR. When you run lilo, you have to run something as verbose as "/mnt/disk/sbin/lilo -v -v -b /dev/hda(boot) -C /mnt/disk/etc/lilo.conf" to include all the paths. (The twin -v flags make it very verbose for debugging purposes.) An alternate choice is to cd /mnt/disk, then chroot /mnt/disk. When it finishes spinning and thinking, you'll get "pwd --> /" and "ls --> /bin /boot /dev /etc...". By that point, you can run just use "mount /boot" and "lilo -v -v" as commands. Sync the drives a couple times. Leave rescue mode with "exit", possibly twice if you've chrooted, and the machine should reboot. -j "John B. Cole" wrote: <em>> <em>> Hi, all.
