HP OpenMail is not free software. This brings up an interesting dilemma: should I recommend a closed-source, commerical mail server that costs $ and runs on Linux, in order to replace M$ Exchange running on M$ 2000? The site http://www.openmail.com/cyc/om/00/ says that Samsung SDS will be developing and selling OpenMail based software, but now I have to trust Samsung. Samsung is a new player in the software industry, so my trust is even less than if HP still supported it. I might have recommended OpenMail if HP still had it. As it stands now, I would rather replace M$ Exchange with a collection of free software. At least then, I could have some control over the further use and implementation of the solution.
