To be honest with you there Capin' I wasn't really interested in the HF side
(although I may get there on day). I am interested in some 2m/440 linking
projects using a IRLP (Internet Relay Linking Project (UDP traffic)) to link
some of the repeaters around the state. Dunno if there is much need/interest
in it though. Yahesu (sp) has just released a box that allows repeater
linking via dialup (this month QST) that looks interesting but has no
ethernet connectivity.

There are a-lot of 2.4ghz mods out there that can be fun for hams. Most of
it falls under the same guise as community internet projects. The biggest
difference is that the hams probably have a better handle on the antenna
technology and signal particulars at 2.4ghz than the networking guys. We all
need to be good RF citizens and take care of the 2.4g band (that is unless
the FCC gives it to NEXTEL like the proposal they just got (see this month's
QST again). There are a couple of WAP11 mods that will increase the power
but at a hefty price of very noisy interfearance in the neighboring bands.
Something like this will most likely destroy 3 or 4 802.11 channels in the
area.

In any case there is a lot of competition in the 2.4 range and we just all
have to learn to live togther.
