I was reading some post on slashdot and they spoke of tweaking the linux desktop to get faster/better results. In windows XP there is about 20 items to turn off to get the desktop smoother.
(I know, I know, XP har har, but well, I support about 1500 users of windows OSs and well SLU has just decided that XP will be their next OS of choice. Because MS has decided to stop selling 98 sometime in the near future. So I have to use XP so I can support and answer any of the higher level questions that come my way. So BACK OFF!!! ;) Anyways my point is in XP I can turn off some of those windows fattening features like... umm well I just realized that my laptop with XP is in the truck so off the top of my head, if you right click the desktop and go to properties there is a desktop enhancement tab in there somewhere. What ways can I tweak KDE or GNOME to give better performance speed wise? Has anyone ever done this? BTW the Wil Wheaton article is pretty cool. -- Brad Bendily - CNA
