Yes, I've managed a Linux cluster running with RHAS and it's not bad. We were running MySQL in a fail-over configuration and Apache in a load-balancing configuration and everything worked nicely. Something to look at. We were basically using LVS. So, short answer: this is definitely doable and has been done many times. There are alternatives to LVS for Linux, but I haven't used them. What was your plan? A hot standby? That should actually be pretty easy.
