First, Cox definitely blocks port 80 and forbids running a server out of =
your home in any way shape or form. It is against their end user =
agreement or whatever. I don't, however, understand why the FBI would =
ever be involved in something like that. I would just think Cox would =
suspend your account and maybe sue you if you were running a moneymaking =
server.

Second, I use cox with no problems. They don't support Linux, but you =
don't really want their "support" anyway.

Third, speaking as a newbie, I would definitely go with a Linux GUI red =
hat variant, like Red Hat or Mandrake. Learning Linux is hard enough =
when they try to make it easy on you for me to make it harder by =
installing a *BSD. But me, I'm impatient, and I want to be able to take =
one long night filled with caffeine and cigarettes and get a distro to =
work. You can always install anything more complex later.

Fourth, Get some memory, as much as you possibly can. The minimum for =
installing Red Hat 8.0 with Gnome or KDE is 64 megs.

That's just my 2, ur 4 cents...
