Brad, I was with Cox about a year while they were with @home. Still with them after the conversion to cox.net. I also found their support and service was excellent considering the crossover complexity. As a consumer I find cox.net much more stable than the old @home. Their support is also excellent. I really see no reason for the lawsuit except that some lawyers will get richer.
Really, the settlement is minimal from the point of view of loss to Cox, supplying only 10.00 worth of service to each subscriber, so I doubt that the settlement payout will hurt Cox. However the court costs and other legal costs could possibly outweigh any other losses to them. In addition, their charges for this service is, in my opinion, very reasonable. Before Cox, my wife and I both had dial-up accounts (about 20.00 each per month) and each a separate telephone line (over 20.00 each per month). So by switching to Cox, and putting on my network, we were able to save about 40.00 per month, and have extremely fast access with seven email addresses and seven web pages available.
