How much did it cost to put in DHCP? There is a tangible benefit for using DHCP and it's not terribly expensive to implement. My service doesn't suck at all and never has. Sounds like you have a localized issue. this is typical in the cable industry with widely varying quality of service even within the same local market area. DHCP is still largely fixed IP. I believe Cox attempted to enforce IP changes and realized rapidly that this doesn't work well at all. My Cox IP hasn't changed since the switchover.
