I'm sorry to hear that Mat - you could try complaining to the auction site - the item is described as "FAIR" and their explanations of this are:
FAIR Significant wear and/or significant blemishes. POOR Serious wear and/or serious damage. May be non-functional. Sounds like it should have been described as "POOR" so they would appear to have described it incorrectly. On the other hand their let-out at the bottom of the page is "Neither PropertyBureau.com nor the person or entity from which the auction item became available makes any warranties, expressed or implied, as to the fitness and/or merchantability of items on our site." Your alternatives would appear to be to try and get a new screen from HP or try selling it on the web site again... your could always bitch at them on slashdot...
