Your current card is overkill.  Buy another one like it for $30 at tiger 
direct.  AGP should be able to stream what you need.  Good luck watching DVDs 
though, I still do that on my TV from a set top box.  

Nvidia seems to work just fine, no magic required.  I got to try out a few of 
their 5x serries with Knoppix at Computer Heaven.  Try it out for yourself at 
any computer store that's got display models.  If they have some stupid sofware 
that keeps you from rebooting, put your CD in and push the power button.  

For processor power, go with a nice P4 or an Athlon 64.
