Ah, I have not seen an Athlon 64 running Linux either, but it is comming:

and it's got the 800 FSB that makes P4 look nice. It's out of my price range
too.

I have seen knoppix run on 2.4 P4 with 533 FSB on Asus. It was fast and I
imagine the 800 would be faster still. You can get a 2.6 800 for $220 at tiger
direct or a little more at Computer Heaven. How such things compare with
Athlon these days is a good question for Shannon. Are you out there today
Shannon? Am I all hyped up, or does that dual channel stuff work? You can get
a 2600+ Thoroughbred with 333 for $100. For $200, you can get a 2800+ Barton
333 in the retail box with a fan and heatsink.

Celeron is junk. I ran Knoppix on some low end Dells and was dissapointed.
2.2 GHz ran about like a 1GHz PIII. On the bright side, I did not expect it to
run at all =:>

Motherboards make a difference. I'm still happy with a cheapo 650 Athlon and
Soyo set I bought 3 years ago, though the caps are all blowing up! I'm not
happy with a 1600+ and Soyo Dragon I bought two years ago. The Draggon had all
sorts of junk integrated on it. It's fast and all, but it stalls big time when
writing larger files. Still, here I am drooling at a $800 Shuttle 64 case mobo
and processor combo deal. Somebody, slap me.
