What you are talking about is not a problem over here at UL.  I am in
one of the lower level CS classes... We work on dual boot linux boxes
where we slogin to one of the numerous sun blades downstairs and use
Sun's CC compiler.  We also worked a little with g++.  So far we haven't
touched vc++, but are told that we will in the future.  

I find that there is a fair representation of operating systems on
campus.  There is even a Mac/Windows lab in the Math building.

As far as the university system administrators, i hear thats a different
story (sonja would know more about that :)

But then, there is also no gentoo.louisiana.edu or anything of that sort
