Seattle has absolutely one of the best aviation museums in the world.
It is on the south end of the city near Boeing Field. There is an
SR-71 there with an unmanned drone on it's back. It is the only
surviving example.... Among many other things at the museum. You
should probably take a trip over to see Mt. Ranier, about a two hour
drive from Seattle.

Or you could drive about four hours from Seattle to Richland
Washington area and go see the nuclear reactor where the plutonium was
made for the Nagasaki bomb and more or less within rock throw distance
is the other LIGO observatory... :-) maybe not worth the trip
though...

In San Francisco, there is the Exploratorium which is near the
southern end of the Golden Gate Bridge if I remember correctly. This
is one of the best Science museums around for kids/geeks. I used to
visit there when I was a kid/early teen. Then there is always
Alcatraz too. If you plan on going to Alcatraz, get your tickets a
week in advance or there is a very good chance that it will be sold
out. Also, a nice stop is the Monterey Bay Aquarium, more or less in
the same area as the Alcatraz trips. Pier 59 area?

I'll have to think about it and see if I can remember some other stuff....

If you are driving between San Francisco and Seattle, let me know, I
have some tips for you....

Also, there is a slim chance I may be in the San Fran/Santa Rosa area
in late August myself.... I know a great Sushi stop in Santa Rosa.
