Check out "Let's Go USA" if you have not already. Their website looks like
junk on first glance, but their books are excellent and made for people like
you. It's written by Harvard students. They pick out good food, cheap but
quirky lodging and have excellent advice about what to see and do in most
major cities. In New Orleans, they found Cafe du Monde (easy) and Franky and
Johny's (hard). They also catalog 24 hour help lines, where available, and
have good advice for getting around. There might be more to the web site for
users who log in.
