If I had a billion dollars I'd have spent the money even if all I got out of it was one wild ride. Besides the prize money, they have already sold a system to Virgin for space tourism. Other commercial uses may follow. Who knows, if it's cheap enough, we might have people mining asteroid belts in 50 years.
