It's not about the $10 million - the $10 million was just a carrot to
wave under the nose of the developers.  

It's about the private sector getting involved in space travel,
something which the private sector never thought feasible.

Sometimes, people pursue science for the sake of science, and the
advancement of the species.  Not -everything- is about money.
