That is normal if the cable modem can't figure out what to give you. I 
normally unplug the thing, wait half a minute, then plug it back in again.

It's possible that the headend for some reason thinks you don't have 
authorization, in which case you'll get the same type of deal.

Or they're out to get you, and the black helicopters ought to be landing on 
the roof any minute now.

At any rate, point a browser at http://192.168.100.1 --- the modem will give 
you stats, and there's a log you can surf.
