And, FYI I consider that once the colonists arrived, they was no longer "French" but Acadian. Or at least a decade or so later anyway. The first Acadian (Cajun) colony was in 1604. Between then and 1713 the land changed hands between the French and English several times. I have ancestors that I have traced to Grand Pre at around 1640 or so.
