For those who are interested, I will be doing a presentation this Thursday night (1/6/05) at 6:15pm at the Cajun Clickers Computer Club. Location is the Christian Life Fellowship Hall, at 2037 Quail Drive, behind Pennington Biomedical Center. Quail Drive is just west of Pennington, off of Perkins, at the light. Visitors are welcome.
My topic will be "Upgrading to a Home Theater PC" and will be focused on Windows boxes as HTPCs, with little more than a mention that there are some Linux alternatives for the software. SageTV software, which I use, runs on Win98SE and later. The Hauppauge PVR-250 requires P3-733+ for its software. I've used it on a P3-750. On my HTPC, I have an Athlon XP 2500+ and three PVR-250's. The PVR-250 has its encoding in hardware. In December, Clickers had someone from MS showing the new Windows MCE boxes, but most people were turned off when they found that they couldn't "upgrade" their machine's OS to this new XP version. Personally, I found its interface just "too cute." WinXP MCE is available only as OEM software. You can see my HTPC on my website. Come to the Clickers meeting if you want to see it in person.
