Ready for what? If you mean system administration, no software will ever be ready.
Distributions like Mepis, Xandros and Red Hat are more than ready for the unwashed masses and are easier to maintain. I set up two of my neighbors almost a year ago with Mepis. Neither have had any problems and both got exactly what they needed. With a 20 minute install time, even a wipe and reload is a piece of cake. Outside of cutting edge hardware and stubborn multimedia junk, Linux just works. What more can you ask for? Vendors will get with it soon enough.
