Firstly, the product quoted was 2K3 server. You can do ASP.Net with no additional cost, Sharepoint with no additional cost (believe me, educational institutions love this project management software; especially after using phprojekt). You have to hire the same staff to support both infrastructures and with 2K3's Software Update Services, distributing updates is a point-click operation. Nobody can state the true cost of either platform. There are too many variables involved. The only thing we can do is state the initial cost of acquiring the software. > > LSU's terminals in the Rec Center and Union have gone over to some kind of > terminal running Firefox on a locked down KDE desktop. Those terminals are not supported by the Office of Computing Services. Both the Union and Rec Sports have their own IT department. OCS's labs in Middleton, CEBA, and the various other buildings are still MS. They have got it down to such a science that they just reghost the machines remotely to take care of any issues that may crop up (not just limited to viruses and bugs, but lack of disk space, etc)
