It seems that this thread has found it's way back to "which is better, linux or windows..."
Ray sent this quote around in email to our office last week: "The University of South Carolina Spartanburg also touts the ease of managing its email system for staff and students after adopting Microsoft Exchange 2004, running on 52 Dell PowerEdge servers." The funny part is, Spartanburg has 4500 students, (the entire South Carolina higher ed system has about 38,000 students, which now that i'm looking at it must be what the quote is referring too), our school has 15,000+ students and 2000+ faculty/staff and we run our email on two linux servers. We do pay for support for the OS on the two servers and we paid for the OS itself, but overall i'm sure our system is much cheaper than theirs. Maybe they got their system up and running in half the time than we did, but I assure you ours is much more stable/expandable/manageable/dependable. Linux rules! BB
