I've been with Powweb for a year, been very satisfied, and will renew with
them. They have increased their package offering several times AND
EXTENDED THOSE CHANGES TO EXISTING CUSTOMERS AUTOMATICALLY! In the last
month, they've increased the storage space from 2GB to 5Gb and the DAILY
throughput from 5GB to 10GB. Yep, that is PER DAY!
They also offer MySQL (up to 5 databases), PHP, phpMyAdmin, Perl, and a lot
more. They do NOT offer SSH or SFTP, though. Price is $93.24/year,
prepaid. They do offer both POP3 and SMTP service.
They are also offering free 1- and 2-year domain names (depending on the
length package you buy) and free months (6 months hosting free with
purchase of 1 year or 14 months free with purchase of 2 years).
Finally, they've got an extra May special -- enter "6off" in the promocode
box on the order form to get $6 off your purchase.
I'm running multiple sites (you can have up to 5 pointed domains in
addition to your main domain) within the one $93.24/year package. My main
domain is www.terrystockdale.com, which is mostly HTML, CSS and Apache
include files, but also has phpBB2 forums. On some other domains, I'm
running the Mambo CMS system and phpBB2 forums. Pointed domains actually
resolve to www.terrystockdale.com and then are redirected by .htaccess to
the right directory -- but the visitor sees is the domain name they typed
(and none of that "framed" mess that shows only the domain name, either).
Most importantly, packages are user-installable -- not just canned packages
provided by the web host. I download the packages from the sources
(www.phpbb2.com and www.mamboserver.com, for example), unzip on my home
machine if needed, and then ftp them into place.
I'm also running my own independent copy of awstats, in order to get dns
reverse-lookups for the stats.
If you are interested in checking them out, please use a link from
www.terrystockdale.com to visit them, as I will get a referral fee if (and
only if) you buy from them.
