Here is an awesome article which no doubt everyone here has seen
(anyone NOT read slashdot?)
I have not tried the 3 games they rank on top of Nexuiz and Alien
Attack. I'm pulling down WarSow right now.

My son had issues with Nexiuz; his graphics card is
older. Eventually, he worked them out by backing away from some of the
effects. My machine had no issues with graphics. I've got an older
box I'm going put this on so we can Deathmatch as a family (sounds
mafioso bad doesn't it?)
What are your choice on games? (Going to have to try bioshock)

Open
source games based on the GPL versions of Q2 and Q3 engines are nice,
but I never find their performance to be compelling for what they
provide.
I found Nexuiz and Alien Attack to perform worse than Bioshock on my
system, for example. Both games attempted to bolt recent features (
e.g. Shader Model 3.0 in the case of AA) onto the old engines, which
are not usually optimized.
Oh yeah..as mentioned on this list about 3
weeks ago, my son did indeed finish setting up the beowulf cluster he
started on ...and has since moved on to the game Nexiuz
You should try Nexiuz... Its perfect for those people with itchy
trigger fingers.
