Why we skipped a release number, only Glen would know. :-)
I guess we really need to write this down.
To clarify my (maybe flawed) thinking:
We were running a nightly build called 1.9-dev. The milestone build before that was 1.8-dev. In order to avoid confusion with the milestone and nightly build I bumped up the build number to 1.10-dev and make the new nightly builds 1.11-dev.
The primary advantage of doing this was to simply to avoid confusion. When people say they are using 1.9 it's obvious that it was a nightly and not the milestone build.
