The pixelation is easily see at 1200% zoom, then if
you see fonts document properties, the candidate for
the pixelated symbols are classified as Type 3.
Although at high DPI ~300.

Also as far as I remember, if PDF or PS is generated
from LaTeX without explicitly using Type 1 fonts, but
with METAFONT fonts, pixelated Type 3 is generated.
