Thanks Ric;

Obviously I have a Mesa problem  ...
ls -l /usr/lib/libOSMesa.* ... shows no files whatsoever.
There are a few Mesa related files in totally other areas that appear to
have been installed by other programs;ie. in /usr/share but no GL stuff.

The only Mesa GL relevant file is /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1.2.xlibmesa

I guess I need to fully install Mesa and place it specifically for J.
Can you give me any (idiot proof) pointers in this direction?

David
