I did delete the entire gtk folder.  Though if this is important,
shouldn't the instructions say so?  (And the download did seem to
download the files, and I saw no error messages on that download.)

I have not tried getgtkbin 1 -- i will try that tomorrow, along with
some of the other suggestions here.
