Collins, that is closer to the truth down here, than you can imagine.
BUSH did CALL the Governors' and the Mayor of NOLA BEFORE the storm hit.
He "urged" them to be prepared. And No, I am not a big fan of GW, but give
credit where it is due.
The difference is Haley Barbour called up our about 7500 or more N.G., both
the MP's and the Engineers that Saturday.
He also called up MDOT (dept of Transportation)
road crews and had them bunk at Camp Shelby (South of Hattiesburg
and about 60 miles NORTH of GulfPort) that same Saturday.
Before the winds even died down, they were on the road and clearing the roads.
Now, down in our Gulf Coast, HP and Local Police went door to door INSISTING
people get out. If they refused, the were given a release form to fill out.
Name, Age, Race, Sex, identifying marks, Physician, Dentist, next of kin,
all were on that form. When asked if was not a little to personal for a
'release' form, the answer was "It is so we can better identify your body".
Believe me, a lot of people decided to get out with that.
Our REGIONAL newspaper, http://www.clarionledger.com , has given good
