After I did some more research on this, I'm pretty sure this should
work already.
The jetty-web.xml parser does a pretty good job on this [1]. So this
could easily be an issue
on how you configured your JAAS then. Does it look like the JAAS
configuration inside the
karaf own jetty.xml (can be found in the etc folder)?
