FWIW, I'm using xf86-video-ati without lockups. However, I'm running a post 2.6.29-rc4 git kernel (to be exact, 148 commits post, g6c6f1f0, ATM) and an older card, Radeon 92xx R2xx chipset series era. Also, I see log entries indicating running out of MTRRs, so it's possible/likely some combination of the above has allowed me to escape the lockups you two seem to be having. -- Duncan - List replies preferred.
