You know what... I could not find a complete GUI program to automate
making entries in the gnome menu system. Do I have to manually edit
gnome configuration files just to put a quick launch button in the gnome
menu!? Doing that would be trivial... I would not mind submitting bug
reports but now I am confused about who to contact about that next time.

Gnome took out its menu editor. SMEG is masked on my computer. I did an emerge with -S (edit.*menu)|(menu.*edit) and this is what I got... smeg is the only package returned that will work.

By the way- it took me a long time to determine how to do a regular _expression_ emerge search with two keywords using an AND construct. If that is in the documentation somewhere it could help people locate programs to install.  In the regular expressions package, there is not an AND operator... only an OR operator so searching for packages with more than one word is impossible unless you understand how to construct regular expressions well.
Regards.
