Hm, upon reading that list and seeing what they do, it raises another
argument in favour of eselect:

If there needs to be more things changed prior to reboot than simply
changing which init is invoked, having an eselect module gives a good place
to put relevant related changes to make it work.

It also gives a good place to do sanity checks on your system so it knows
that the change of init invocation will actually work on your machine.
