Problem is that I am very confused as to which kde directory in my home
directory corresponds to the .kde directory you mention Tom.

I have the following in my home directory..

lrwxrwxrwx    1 carlos   users           7 Apr  2 01:37 .kde -> .kde3.1
lrwxrwxrwx    1 carlos   users           5 Mar  7 20:24 .kde.backup -> .kde3
drwxr-xr-x    4 carlos   users         184 Apr  2 01:37 .kde3
drwxr-xr-x    4 carlos   users         184 Mar 10 03:19 .kde3.1

I'm still a Gentoo n00b but I think you mean the .kde3.1 directory right?
Since that is the one pointed to by ".kde -> .kde3.1"? If so that is
confusing still since those on the KDE mailing list are telling me that KDE
uses the .kde3 directory and NOT the .kde3.1.

Seems that most of this various versions directories are a result of Gentoo
related stuff.

Can someone clarify for me which directory is for what? I would really
appreciate it. The KDE mailing list is clueless about these various
directories and symbolic links too (at least the one's I have been in contact
with).

Soon as I get the chance I am going to get rid of KDE 3.0 (now that KDE 3.1 is
working okay). Hopefully that will clear some of these directories out.

Carlos
