I also want to see if I can make it open in the background and
not
switch to Firefox desktop as well. As it is now, if I click a
link,
it takes me to the Firefox desktop and shows the tab for the
link. I
want it to stay put on my email desktop.
i'm not sure whether or not this can be controlled via Firefox; if
it's not, you should examine the configuration options for your
DE/WM regarding window placement and focus. (E.g in Wayfire, one
can create a windows-rules section in its config file.)
