Well, removing xdm from the default runlevel is worth a try and I never
thought of doing this, but I don't have anything related to nvidia
selected in the kernel.  I'm using nvidia-drivers because I read
somewhere that for newer cards, the kernel drivers don't work.  I did
everything that the nvdia How To said - to the letter.  :-)
