Hi Darren,

I am aware of those options and changed the format from bmp to jpg to get
the file size down from +300 Mb to 22 Mb. To further get the file size down
by reducing the DPI negatively impacts the image quality. On my current work
I am trying to generate A1 size plots including colour grids so there is a
lot of data.

Using IrfanView I have been able to reduce jpg file size from 22 Mb to ~3Mb
without visibly impacting the quality so that is a manageable size.

I still seem to have problems with the output files being recognised by some
image reading software. Even when I have reduced the file size and resaved
through IrfanView the file won't open in Paint, in Inkscape, or in NitroPro
(can usually import images in to pdf's)?

Do you think Geosoft will develop the capacity to export a map from Target
to pdf format?

Regards,

Todd

Hi Todd,

I'm not sure if you are aware of this already and it's not working for you,
but there are options within Target to reduce the outgoing image file size.
In the "Export Map" dialog (see below) you can change the exported file
format. In addition to this, reducing the DPI (dots per inch) will make the
file size smaller.

Feel free to e-mail me directly or [email protected]
<mailto:[email protected]> if you want or need to discuss further.

Best regards,

Darren

Subject: [geonet] Can't open maps exported as JPEG's

I am having trouble opening the files generated when I export a map from
Target.

The image file size is very big (much bigger than what is generated with
other software I have used). I am getting bmp files in the order of 400,000
KB and if I select JPG format it reduces to 22,000 KB.

I want to be able to reduce the file sizes so I can email (and also so they
don't take up so much hard drive space).

I can open all files with Windows Photo Viewer but can't use this software
to reduce the file size.

I seem to be able to open the odd file with Paint but generally get an error
message saying "it is not a valid file or its format is not currently
supported".

I have the same problem with other programs.

Any ideas?
