Hi Mauro,

I just tried out the plugin and it works great!! Very cool stuff. I 
updated the wiki page with an example to an imagemap i just generated 
for the states layer. Nothing special, just a tool tip with the name of 
the state and a link that goes to its page on wikipedia.

http://geo.openplans.org/states.html

So yeah... i see no reason why not to move it to an extension. We can 
also a nice blog post about it too. The only thing at this point that 
remains is getting it to compile in java 5. Which i can commit if you 
approve.
