I think its unfair to say that they "don't work". Are there issues, yes undoubtedly. But i have found *many* issues with the old api as part of shooting for wfs 1.1. cite compliance. So its just as fair to say that the old interfaces "don't work" either.
Part of this issue is perhaps that I tried to be as non-invasive as possible. Perhaps api shifts like this one require everyone to "chip in" and help remove the old interfaces completely. Both approaches have benefit.
