As some or all of you know, CSIRO will be investing in a integrated "Spatial
Information Services Stack" to enable e-Research activities.
This means an ability to deploy geoserver and client applications easily in
a meta-data rich environment - i.e. getting configurations and templates
from registries, and providing implementations conformant to basic patterns
(including SDI framework data sets and observational data).
This investment is currently over a three year time period. For us, I
suspect FOSS4G in 2009 is the best place to align long term plans, since
we'll need to be lloking at the bigger picture of how the whole architecture
needs to be developed and the requirements for refinement of each potential
tool in the stack.
Our main goal in the meantime would be to see the Geotools 2.5+
consolidated, and accesible from Geoserver using meaninfgul data schemas to
give us a deployable tool. Until we get a chance to play with this, we
probably wont have too much useful insight into GeoTools 3.0, but we may be
worth considering when requirements and resources are being sought.
