See above, formatting makes it harder to check history. Harder, not
impossible, so it's imho tolerable if done with a bit of common sense.

Agreed... at the same time, mind, it's going to be only a stop-gap measure,
the formatting will slowly start rotting from the minute after
that commit. But it might take a few years before we go back to a "really
bad" state again
