Great question, right now we are all in the same boat. A MapPane widget
has been created and needs testing, I think they would like to release
again on wednesday - I can build the code and attach the jar to a jira
bug report or something for review? (or just email it to you).

I am afraid we do not really know any more. Once the MapPane thing works
at all doing sanity checks on documentation would be good. I think
Adrian and myself may may docs available either through the wiki or as a
pdf depending. Just catching up with adrian yesterday it appears he is
having fun documenting the details, I hope to paint a broader picture
first, and then go into details as people like yourself have questions
(I will point out that I do not have an understanding of all the details
myself, just enough to get the job done - and every new job I learn a
bit more).
Cheers,
Jody
